Do you want to help us fight poverty and chronic hunger, but don’t exactly know how?  Would you like make a donation, but your bank account does not have enough at the moment?

Then our fundraising project „You create space, we create future.“ is right for you. Because you don’t have to look for funds in your bank account, but in your wardrobe, closet, cloakroom, under the bed or in your basement. It’s about your bag, or more precisely, the one you no longer use.

With the sale of your unused old favorite, you can make room in your closet and at the same time support our development projects in Africa and South Asia with the donation of the proceeds, so we can strengthen local women in their rights, participation and education.

Focus on Women

November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and we are taking this opportunity to support women in need through our fundraising campaign.

Women play a key role in society. Not only do they provide emotional support for their families, but they also take care of basic needs such as food, education, and health and contribute significantly to household incomes. However, whenever women are restricted in their access to education, rights and participation, it has serious consequences for their families who are already affected by poverty and chronic hunger.

That’s why our approach is to:

Empower women = Empower families = Fight poverty and chronic hunger

Are you in? Simply follow these steps:

  1. Find a bag that you no longer use. If you don’t have one, you can also support us by simply making a donation.
  2. Sell: Choose an online marketplace, „offline“ flea market, second-hand shop or approach your friends and offer your bag for sale. Mention that you will donate the proceeds to the Hunger Project to help promote our campaign.
  3. Also share this on Instagram, Facebook or your blog with the hashtags #platzschafftzukunft #tascheschafftzukunft #dashungerprojekt. Post what convinced you to take part in the campaign and encourage your followers to do so as well.
  4. Donate: After a successful sale, come back to our homepage and click on „Donate now“. Under „I donate for“ section, select „Stärkung von Frauen und Mädchen” (Strengthening women and girls), tell us the amount and fill in the required fields. If you wish, we can also issue you a tax-deductible receipt for your donation.

Why bags?

In this campaign bags represent a symbol for strong women worldwide.

Handbags are as diverse and individual as their users. Handbags can be small, large, practical, precious or basic. Some symbolize wealth or a certain lifestyle, and sometimes they are just used for storage. Some come across as a typical bag, some are backpacks or pouches.

About The Hunger Project

The Hunger Project Germany is one of 23 The Hunger Project (THP) country offices. Together, we support projects in 13 countries in Africa, South Asia and Latin America so that people can realize their own vision of a future free from hunger and poverty. Through our education, agriculture, health and microfinance programs, we provide women with access to the knowledge and resources they need to break the cycle of poverty.

Worldwide, we reach more than 16 million people in around 23,000 communities every year.

You can learn more about our approach and how we empower women in our projects here.

You can read more about two of our current projects in which we empower women in India and Ghana.

Since 2003 we have been awarded the DZI Donation Seal and are a member of the Initiative Transparent Civil Society (ITZ). These organizations give credit to NGOs that are handling donations entrusted to them carefully and responsibly. Your donations are therefore used responsibly and exactly where they are needed most to secure a future for women, children and families.
